After adding all the details except; running lights, the star on the front number board and the cap on the smoke stack, I took a sanity shot and converted it to black and white to see how it held up to the original image.
The angle is not close enough but as you can see from the image below it looks fairly close to the prototype in the types of details and their proportions.
After the backhead I moved straight into finishing the plumbing and adding the last of the details.
